Murad bin Hussein, the General Director of the Tunisian Export Promotion Center, has stated that pharmaceutical products are exported to 42 destinations, 46% of which are imported by Libya.

The Tunisian official added that in 2022, Tunisia exported more than 18% of its locally produced medicines, with revenues reaching 332.8 million Tunisian dinars.

In his statement, Ben Hussein called for the necessity of devising a Tunisian strategy and an action plan aimed at developing the pharmaceutical industry sector. He also emphasized the need to implement mechanisms to facilitate Tunisian pharmaceutical exports, review reference drug prices, and grant export licenses.

Trade between Libya and Tunisia reached 5 billion dinars, equivalent to 977 million dollars in 2022, a 50% increase compared to 2021. The two countries are expected to convene a meeting of the Joint High Commission after a lengthy hiatus in its operations, which is relied upon to issue new decisions to boost economic and trade cooperation.
