Amid the global energy crisis, QatarEnergy’s earnings have soared, reaching $42.4 billion in 2022, a 58 percent increase from the previous year, propelled by rising global energy prices, as per the most recent reports.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine in early 2022 fueled fears of a supply shortage among European consumers, who depend heavily on Moscow’s pipeline gas, thereby driving prices to unprecedented levels.

As the leading producer of liquefied natural gas worldwide, QatarEnergy reaped significant benefits from the hike in gas prices. Furthermore, a 40 percent increase in oil prices compared to the previous year was even more crucial, as most of Qatar’s supply contracts are linked to oil prices.

QatarEnergy plans to boost its LNG production capacity to 126 million tons annually by 2027, up from the current 77 million. However, the initial output from the first phase of this expansion won’t be available until 2026.
