On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced the signing of several agreements in the fields of defense, energy, and investment.

Among them is an acquisition contract with the Turkish company “Baykar” related to the “localization of drone production in the Kingdom.”

Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman confirmed in a Twitter post that he signed the “executive plan for defense cooperation” with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.

He stated that this plan is a culmination of the collaborative efforts between the two friendly countries in the defense and military domains.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense stated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “witnessed the signing ceremony of several bilateral agreements between the two countries.”

These agreements include the executive plan for cooperation in the fields of capabilities, defense industries, research, and development, as well as an acquisition contract between the defense ministry and the Turkish company Baykar.

The official news channel reported the defense minister’s remarks, stating that “the Ministry of Defense signed acquisition contracts with Baykar, a Turkish defense industry company, through which the Ministry of Defense acquires drones. The aim is to enhance the readiness of the armed forces and strengthen the Kingdom’s defense and manufacturing capabilities.”

In a related context, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia and Turkey have signed a number of memoranda of understanding in various fields, including energy, investment, and defense.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday at the start of a Gulf tour aimed at attracting investments and financing to alleviate budget pressures, reduce chronic inflation, and overcome currency weakness. The Turkish president is scheduled to conclude his Gulf tour, which includes Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, on July 19, according to Reuters.
