At least three policemen were killed in separate attacks by gunmen in southeast Iran, as reported by official media on Sunday. Additionally, an Iranian border guard was killed, and two others were wounded in a clash between criminal gunmen and border guards in the village of Bishamak in Rask, southeast Iran.

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Monday that the soldier was killed and two other personnel were injured during the clash in Rask city in the southeast of the country.

The Media Center of the Internal Security Forces Command in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeast Iran, also announced the death of an employee in the Rangers unit in the city of Khash. A statement from the internal security headquarters in Sistan and Baluchestan province stated that Ramin Velayati, a member of the guards in Khash city, was martyred by armed criminals.

The police chief of Iranshahr reported that “terrorists fired towards the Shahrdaraz police station in the city.” Colonel Mehdi Rashnoudi, in a press interview, stated that “the terrorist elements fled the scene immediately after a decisive response from the brave police center guards,” and added, “One of the fleeing terrorists was injured by police gunfire.” He further mentioned that a police officer was injured in the attack and was transferred to a medical center where his condition is stable.

Iranshahr, located in southern Sistan and Baluchestan, is one of the important cities in this southeastern province of Iran.

Recent reports indicate a complex and tense security landscape in Iran, marked by ongoing conflicts, military actions, and internal crackdowns on dissent. Iran’s internal security situation remains precarious, with the government facing criticism for its harsh treatment of dissent and the handling of civil unrest. Human rights organizations have highlighted numerous cases where the Iranian judiciary has handed down severe sentences to protesters, artists, and journalists accused of anti-government activities. This includes long prison terms for activities deemed threatening to state security, and reports of torture and other mistreatments of detainees.

The Iranian government continues to grapple with significant economic difficulties exacerbated by international sanctions and internal mismanagement. These economic issues have sparked widespread protests, which the government has frequently met with forceful crackdowns. The ongoing economic crisis is compounded by high inflation and a reliance on oil exports, which are vulnerable to global market shifts and geopolitical tensions.
