On Tuesday, Tunisia inked two financial agreements with the African Development Bank aimed at funding the “Program to Support Enterprise Competitiveness and Economic Empowerment of Citizens through Job Creation.”
During his speech at the 162nd session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, chaired by Yemen and held at the Arab League headquarters, Borell emphasized that Israel is attempting to transform the West Bank into a new Gaza through policies that displace its population and hinder the internationally agreed two-state solution.
Borell denounced claims that the Arab Peace Initiative, introduced by Saudi Arabia in 2002 at the Beirut summit, is outdated. He affirmed that it provides a consensual framework to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict and aims to build a better future for the region.
Borell also remarked that a ceasefire in Gaza does not seem imminent as those fueling the conflict have no interest in ending it. He highlighted the expanding conflict where Israel aims to make the West Bank a new Gaza, noting that achieving a two-state solution is becoming increasingly difficult.
He urged intensified efforts to halt the deterioration in Gaza, stressing that there is no path to security in the Middle East without comprehensive and just peace.
European diplomacy chief Josep Borell visited the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip on Monday and called for opening the borders to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the treatment of the wounded in hospitals.
