Early Monday, the Jordanian Public Security Directorate declared the immediate and indefinite closure of the King Hussein Bridge.

The bridge, a key passageway for departing and arriving travellers as well as cargo, will remain closed until further notice.

This announcement follows a statement made by the Directorate’s spokesperson on Sunday evening, indicating that the bridge would open to travellers at 10 AM Monday while maintaining its closure for cargo movement.

On Sunday evening, Jordan released preliminary findings from the investigation into a recent shooting incident at the King Hussein Bridge, also known as Allenby Bridge, which borders the occupied West Bank.

The shooting resulted in the death of three Israelis. The Jordanian Interior Ministry identified the shooter as Maher Diab Hussein Al-Ghazi, a Jordanian national from the Husseiniya area in Ma’an Governorate. Al-Ghazi had crossed the bridge driving a cargo vehicle carrying commercial goods from Jordan to the West Bank.

The Interior Ministry stressed that initial results suggest the act was an individual’s doing and that investigations are ongoing to uncover all details of the incident.

Coordination is underway among relevant authorities to return the body of the assailant to Jordan for burial.

The Ministry also confirmed the release of all Jordanian drivers detained for investigation after the incident, with more than 100 trucks returning to the kingdom successively on Sunday.

Furthermore, the ministry noted that authorities are monitoring the situation closely following the bridge closure.

Despite earlier Israeli reports that the bridge would reopen on Monday, the Jordanian authorities have yet to confirm a reopening date.
