Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, alongside the Regional Director of CTGI Renewable Energy Partners, Mohammed Abu Attiya, signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to conduct feasibility studies for green hydrogen projects in Jordan.
Minister Kharabsheh expressed in a press statement following the signing that the memorandum aims to produce 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually. He outlined that this memorandum sets the general framework for cooperation to facilitate the company’s efforts in conducting an initial feasibility study for a new green hydrogen project.
Kharabsheh emphasized, “Today we renew our partnership with the private sector by signing the 13th agreement in the field of green hydrogen and green ammonia production, expanding the investment scope in this sector.”
He also expressed hope in achieving the ministry’s vision and aspirations to transform Jordan into a regional and global hub for hydrogen production, leveraging the agreements signed in this field.
The minister reiterated the commitment of his ministry and the sector to facilitate investments in the hydrogen industry, describing it as a valuable opportunity for both Jordan and investors alike, especially as a promising sector in European countries.
Kharabsheh further mentioned that the memorandum is part of the Jordanian government’s efforts to enhance Jordan’s role as a regional center for green energy production through the utilization of its abundant renewable energy sources and central location in the Middle East and Africa. This step aligns with the ministry’s priorities and is a key activity within the Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2033), which includes investing in green hydrogen production projects in Jordan.
On his part, Attiya affirmed Jordan’s distinctive role in providing facilitations to “CTGI Renewable Energy Partners Jordan,” enabling it to offer power generation services in the country.
It’s noteworthy that China Three Gorges Asia-Africa Green Energy Investment Limited (CTGAAL), established in Hong Kong in August 2022, is a regional affiliate of CTGI Renewable Energy Partners. CTGI operates globally in the green energy sector through new investments and by the end of 2023, CTGI’s total assets exceeded 100 billion yuan.
CTGAAL’s activities include hydropower, wind energy, and solar energy, currently managing 16 power stations in Pakistan, Egypt, and Jordan, with a total capacity of 3,750 megawatts.
The company’s total assets exceed 22.6 billion yuan, and its total annual energy production in 2023 was about 4.7 billion kilowatt-hours.
CTGI Renewable Energy Partners in Jordan owns seven renewable energy projects including the Shoubak Wind Project, Rajef Wind Project, Ma’an First Light Energy Project, Ma’an Falcon Solar Energy Project, Our Sun Energy Project, and the Eagle Solar Energy Project.
