The United Nations Support Mission in Libya has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Libya due to recent unilateral decisions.

The Mission plans to hold an emergency meeting to address the crisis surrounding the Central Bank of Libya, which has led to political tensions and the suspension of oil production and export by authorities in eastern Libya.

The meeting aims to bring together relevant parties to reach a consensus based on existing political agreements, current laws, and the principle of maintaining the Central Bank’s independence and the continuity of public services.

The UN Mission has called for the immediate lifting of force majeure on oil fields, a halt to escalation, and the safeguarding of Central Bank employees.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, has urged the Libyan House of Representatives to return to the political agreement that was suspended by a unilateral decision.

He called for the selection of a Central Bank Governor in a legal, transparent session in consultation with the High Council of State.
