Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced on Sunday that Ukraine has amassed over 120,000 soldiers along its border with Belarus.
In response, Minsk has deployed approximately one-third of its armed forces along the entire border.
Lukashenko’s remarks come as Ukraine has launched incursions into Russian territory, beginning on August 6, with thousands of Ukrainian troops crossing into Russia.
He stated that Belarus has concentrated its forces at specific points along the border in preparation for potential conflict.
Ukrainian Border Guard spokesperson Andriy Demchenko reported that the situation along the Belarusian border remains unchanged.
He noted that despite Lukashenko’s rhetoric, there has been no noticeable increase in Belarusian military equipment or personnel near the border.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin also commented on the heightened tension at the border, describing the situation as still tense.
Lukashenko emphasized that the border area is heavily fortified with mines, suggesting severe consequences for any attempts to cross into Belarus.
The current developments reflect growing regional tensions and military readiness on both sides of the border, as Belarus and Ukraine navigate the complexities of their strained relationship.
