Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdel Aty held a bilateral meeting today with Moussa Al-Koni, Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council, on the sidelines of the Rwandan President’s inauguration ceremony in Kigali.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the minister emphasized the strong, brotherly ties and shared destiny between the two nations and their peoples. He stressed the importance of continuing efforts to achieve the common goals of both sides.

The Foreign Minister discussed the rapid developments in Libya, underscoring the need to continue efforts to advance the peace process while preserving Libya’s sovereignty. He reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for a Libyan-led solution and Cairo’s ongoing backing of national institutions to facilitate simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections under a unified government, ensuring Libya’s security and stability.

The spokesperson added that the meeting highlighted the importance of resolving militia issues and the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from Libya within a specified timeframe, in line with international resolutions. Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing coordination to establish the desired sustainable stability in Libya.

Ambassador Abu Zeid also noted that Al-Koni praised the deep-rooted ties between Egypt and Libya, commending Egypt’s constructive efforts in supporting Libya’s stability. He acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role in addressing the Libyan crisis, reflecting Cairo’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to Libya.

Recently, relations between Egypt and Libya have seen significant developments, primarily centered on efforts to stabilize Libya. Egypt has been actively engaged in supporting intra-Libyan reconciliation without foreign interference, emphasizing the importance of a Libyan-owned political process. This includes Egypt’s consistent calls for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya to ensure the country’s sovereignty and stability.

In addition to these diplomatic efforts, Egypt has also been involved in infrastructure development in Libya, signing several agreements with Libya’s unity government. These agreements focus on reconstruction efforts, particularly in areas like bridge building and infrastructure repair, reflecting Egypt’s interest in contributing to Libya’s economic recovery.

The collaboration between Egypt and Libya is seen as vital for regional stability, with both countries working closely to address security concerns and support the unification of Libya’s military and political institutions
