Central Bank of Egypt: Annual Inflation Rate Rises to 41%

The Central Bank of Egypt has announced a rise in the annual core inflation rate, according to its indicators, reaching 41% in June 2023 compared to 40.3% in May 2023.

In a statement released on Monday, the Central Bank clarified that the headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a monthly rate of 1.7% in June 2023, compared to a monthly rate of 1.2% in the same month of the previous year. The CPI also registered a monthly rate of 2.9% in May 2023.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics had previously announced that the general urban inflation index recorded a monthly rate of 2.1% in June 2023, compared to a negative rate of 0.1% in the same month of the previous year. It also registered a monthly rate of 2.7% in May 2023. The annual general inflation rate reached 35.7% in June 2023, compared to 32.7% in May 2023.
