The UN Security Council is holding closed consultations today, Monday (New York time), on developments in the Sudan dossier at the request of the United Kingdom, the dossier’s holder.

A statement from the council mentioned that the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, and the Director of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for Financing and Partnerships, Lisa Doughten, are briefing on the Sudan file.

Meanwhile, the council will vote tomorrow, Tuesday, according to a Security Council statement revealing the agenda for the week, on a draft resolution that extends the sanctions measures imposed on the Central African Republic and renews the mandate of the expert team assisting the Sanctions Committee on the Central African Republic.

The Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, will witness this Wednesday the session concluding his country’s presidency of the Security Council for the current month of July, while Sierra Leone takes over the monthly and periodic presidency of the Security Council next Thursday.

The Security Council pointed out that it will discuss issues related to Somalia this week and the mandate of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia until August 12, reviewing the tasks of the follow-up mission sent to Somalia.

The Security Council is holding a session on a draft resolution authored by France and Sierra Leone, the participants in preparing the draft resolution concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo, about the support provided by the United Nations to the Southern African Development Community mission working in eastern Congo since December 2023.

On the level of the Security Council’s subsidiary bodies, the Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict is holding informal consultations today, Monday, to negotiate its conclusions on the Secretary-General’s report on children and armed conflict in Iraq.
