A Canadian report highlights the dire and inhumane conditions faced by Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries. Since April 2023, the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has caused thousands of deaths and displaced millions.

The UNHCR reports that over 600 Sudanese people cross into Chad daily, with 90% being women and children. CBC Canada reports these refugees are fleeing a brutal civil war still raging in Sudan, forcing around 10 million people from their homes, making it the largest displacement crisis globally.

The report mentions that among the millions displaced, 600,000 have fled to Chad, one of the world’s poorest countries. The World Food Programme indicates Chad is struggling with the influx amid drought, floods, and food shortages. Chad’s government is pleading for international aid to manage the humanitarian crisis.

Aid groups claim they have only a fraction of the funds needed to feed and shelter the thousands crossing into Chad.
