Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani met with the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Gulf, Luigi Di Maio, to discuss the current regional situation, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
They explored Arab and international efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire, releasing detainees, and delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip. The meeting also involved exchanging views on various regional and international issues of mutual concern.
According to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the discussions also covered the cooperation between Bahrain and the EU across multiple sectors, focusing on ways to enhance and expand these relations to serve their mutual interests and aspirations.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Al-Zayani reviewed the outcomes of the Arab summit hosted by Bahrain in May.
He highlighted Bahrain’s initiatives adopted at the summit, which included calling for an international peace conference in the Middle East to resolve the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution.
Other initiatives involved supporting full recognition of the State of Palestine and its UN membership, providing educational and healthcare services to those affected by regional conflicts in coordination with international and regional organizations, and fostering Arab cooperation in fintech, innovation, and digital transformation.
Foreign Minister Al-Zayani emphasized the EU’s significant regional and international role in supporting efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, contribute to resolving regional conflicts, and back sustainable development efforts, as well as enhancing security and stability in the region.
