Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Wednesday in Astana, Kazakhstan, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

They discussed bilateral and global issues, including the Ukraine war, Israel’s attacks on Palestinian territories, the Syrian crisis, and the fight against terrorism, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to regional and global peace. He proposed that Türkiye could help mediate a cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine, suggesting a fair peace is achievable.

Erdogan highlighted that Israel’s actions in Palestinian territories and threats against Lebanon endanger regional and global peace. He called on the international community to stop Israel, noting that nearly 38,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza since the October 7, 2023, Hamas incursion.
