The Libyan Oil Minister under the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohamed Aoun, released a statement detailing the ongoing crisis with Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba.
Aoun criticized Dbaiba for ignoring his reinstatement to the ministry and called for a clear decision on his position—either to correct the situation or formally dismiss him from his role as Minister of Oil and Gas.
In his statement, Aoun recounted the circumstances surrounding his temporary suspension from duties on March 25 by the Administrative Control Authority. This suspension was lifted on May 28, allowing him to resume his responsibilities.
Aoun highlighted the lack of communication from the Prime Minister’s office, noting that his calls and correspondences have gone unanswered and that he has been unable to secure meetings with the Prime Minister.
He emphasized that such treatment is inappropriate for government ministries.
Aoun also expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions taken by the acting Minister of Oil and Gas.
He described these actions as disruptive to the ministry’s operations and development efforts, including issuing official seals in the minister’s name, cancelling secondments and loans of ministry employees, relocating offices of some general managers from the ministry to the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation, and other arbitrary measures.
Aoun suggested that his exclusion from the Ministry of Oil and Gas may be due to his firm national stance on issues that conflict with Libya’s best interests and his strict adherence to the country’s laws and regulations.
