In a summit held in Brussels yesterday, European Union leaders expressed their deep regret over the loss of civilian lives in Gaza, urging all parties involved to take every possible step to protect civilians. The EU welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which outlines a comprehensive three-phase ceasefire agreement to end the war in Gaza.

The EU leaders called for the full and immediate implementation of the proposal without delay or preconditions. This includes an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a significant and sustainable increase in humanitarian aid throughout Gaza. The leaders reiterated the urgent need for unhindered, full, and rapid access to extensive humanitarian aid for Palestinians in need, and the facilitation of effective operations by humanitarian workers and international organizations within Gaza.

To revive the political process, the leaders emphasized that the EU will continue to work with international partners and actively contribute to coordinated efforts for the reconstruction of Gaza. They also pledged support for the Palestinian Authority as it undertakes necessary reforms.

The EU also voiced concern over escalating tensions in the region, particularly along the Lebanese-Israeli border’s Blue Line. The leaders urged all parties to exercise restraint, prevent any further escalation, and engage in international diplomatic efforts in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

This strong stance by the EU highlights their commitment to peace and stability in the region, reinforcing the need for international cooperation and humanitarian support to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza and the wider Middle East.
