Manchester City’s winger, Riyad Mahrez, has reportedly agreed to an impressive £410,000 per week transfer to Saudi Arabia, according to Sports Zone.
However, the Algerian star is not expected to force an exit, given his success under the tutelage of manager Pep Guardiola, which saw him claim the treble.
Mahrez, 32, has been an instrumental figure for the Citizens since his £60 million transfer from Leicester City in 2018. The Algerian international has netted 78 goals in 236 appearances at the Etihad, an impressive tally that has contributed to the club’s four title victories and a Champions League trophy.
Despite this, rumors are swirling that Mahrez could be the latest high-profile player to switch to Saudi Arabia’s football scene. Al-Ahli, the Saudi club, has already made noteworthy acquisitions, including Chelsea’s goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.
As per Sports Zone, Al-Ahli offered Mahrez an attractive contract, worth £410k per week, following preliminary discussions last month. The forward is said to be receptive to the idea of a move to the Middle East, believing it is the right time for a change, and has reportedly agreed to the personal terms.
However, the final decision on Mahrez’s future rests with Manchester City, with Guardiola reportedly eager to retain his services.
Bernardo Silva, Mahrez’s teammate at Manchester City, is also reportedly being lured by a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese playmaker has been linked with a move away from the Etihad for several transfer windows now.
