Egyptian security forces have successfully intercepted seven buses loaded with Sudanese refugees attempting unauthorized entry into Egypt via the new Qena route and the Qift center at kilometer 10 south of the province.

The incident began when the Qena Security Directorate received a report about the interception of four buses loaded with Sudanese refugees after the Taiba ambush on the new Qena road, and three more buses at the Qift ambush at kilometer 10 involved in unauthorized migration. The security forces moved to the locations of the incidents, and it was decided to deport them back to Sudan via the border in the Aswan province using only three buses under strict security supervision due to the absence of official residency papers in Egypt and some violations, hence the decision by the relevant authorities to deport them.

The International Organization for Migration announced that Japan had provided $1.1 million in support “to assist host communities and migrants in Egypt affected by the Sudanese crisis.” According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, “over 514,827 people fled from Sudan to Egypt, including affected Sudanese, returning Egyptians, and citizens of other countries.”

Since April 15, 2023, there have been widespread and violent clashes between the Sudanese army forces and the Rapid Support Forces in various areas in Sudan, where both parties are trying to control vital headquarters, including the presidential palace, the general command of the armed forces, the command of the Rapid Support Forces, and several military and civilian airports.
