Tourist arrivals in Morocco surged to over 5.9 million in the first five months of 2024, marking a 15% increase over the same period last year, the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy announced on Tuesday.

In May alone, the Moroccan tourism industry continued to grow with over 1.3 million arrivals, an increase of 772,000 over May 2023. This represents a double-digit growth of more than 18%, the ministry highlighted in a statement.

Moroccan expatriates also played a role in the tourism growth, contributing to a 13% increase, according to the Ministry.

“We are proud of the progress we have made over the past 30 months in collaboration with professionals and our partners,” said Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor.

“As we enter the summer season, all promotional, aviation, and reception arrangements in tourist facilities have been meticulously planned to ensure an exceptional experience for our visitors,” Ammor added.

She also emphasized that Morocco has a well-defined strategy for the tourism sector, aiming to receive 26 million tourists by 2030. This goal aligns with the recently launched 2023-2026 roadmap, which has a budget of 6.1 billion MAD.

As of the end of 2023, investment in the tourism sector had reached 8 billion MAD.
