A criminal court in Badr El-Masry sentenced a person to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment during a retrial session, for his involvement with others previously convicted in the case known in the media as the “Kafar Hakim Church Burning”.

The Public Prosecution had charged the defendants with involvement in the riots in Kafar Hakim in Kerdasa on August 14, 2013, coinciding with the incident of storming the Kerdasa police station.

These individuals faced charges of joining an illegal group contrary to the law and the constitution, possession of firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, deliberate arson of a religious facility, blocking the public road, and resisting authorities.

Previous investigations revealed that the defendants, numbering 73, stormed the mentioned church, looted its contents, and set it on fire after receiving instructions from the leadership of the “Guidance Bureau” to commit acts of violence if the police forces dispersed the sit-ins at “Rabaa” and “Al-Nahda” squares.
