The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reaffirmed its support for UN efforts to achieve security, stability, development, and peace in Yemen, benefiting the Yemeni people as a whole.
The reaffirmation came through the GCC Secretary-General, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, during his meeting with Hans Grundberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, on Monday, where they reviewed the latest developments in Yemen.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several topics, notably the GCC’s steadfast support for legitimacy in Yemen and ending the Yemeni crisis by reaching a political solution based on the three references: the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
Al-Budaiwi reiterated the GCC’s full support for the Presidential Leadership Council chaired by Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, as stated in the statement of the GCC Supreme Council at its 44th session in Doha last December, which included full support for the council and its supporting entities to achieve security and stability in Yemen.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has emphasized that Yemen faces complex challenges exacerbated by ten years of conflict, including a fragile healthcare system, a shortage of specialized personnel, and an increase in health emergencies, some of which come from unexpected sources.
The UN organization has highlighted the link between transportation, travel, and trade with economic development, but also warned of potential risks to public health, leading to the spread of diseases across borders.
