On Friday, Russia announced that its military had continued to make significant advances in northeastern Ukraine, successfully capturing 12 villages in the Kharkiv region within the past week as part of a major new offensive.

According to the Russian defense ministry, the “North” group of troops achieved these gains and is pushing further into enemy territories.

Between May 9 and May 15, Russian forces secured control over an area spanning 278 square kilometers (107 square miles), marking their largest territorial gains in the last eighteen months, as reported by AFP, based on data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The majority of these advances occurred in the northeastern part of Ukraine, although there has been notable progress in the southern regions as well.
