The World Food Programme (WFP), an international organization within the United Nations, has stated that Libya continues to face significant challenges in food security, poverty, and malnutrition, despite some improvements in the humanitarian situation.

The report highlights ongoing efforts to deliver food assistance to those in need.

During March, the UN program identified a need for $14.1 million in funding for its operations in Libya between April and September, emphasizing the delivery of aid to over 40,000 individuals by March.

While the number of people in need decreased from 1.5 million in 2021 to 803,000 in 2022, the report underlines persistent challenges in food security, malnutrition, and poverty in Libya, alongside climate change repercussions.

The minimum cost of the food expenditure basket exceeded the threshold by 7% in March, signaling a worsening situation, especially with the Libyan dinar’s performance against the dollar impacting residents’ purchasing power.
