UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned an attack on the headquarters of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem, carried out by Israeli extremists.

The assault, which included setting fire to the agency’s perimeter twice, was publicly denounced by Guterres in a statement on X.

He emphasized the inadmissibility of targeting aid workers and humanitarian assets, declaring that such actions must cease.

The Secretary-General also highlighted the dire situation in Rafah and noted ongoing efforts to coordinate aid delivery into the Gaza Strip amidst escalating tensions.

The UNRWA reported that during the incident, a group was observed outside the compound chanting incendiary slogans and accompanied by armed individuals.
