Brazil has decided to allocate $10 billion to assist in the rescue and reconstruction efforts in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, devastated by massive floods caused by heavy rainfall.

BBC Radio reported today, Friday, that the death toll from the floods has risen to 107 people, with more than 130 others still missing.

The floods submerged vast areas of Porto Alegre, the state capital, and surrounding cities.

Additionally, they led to power outages and the disruption of clean water supplies for several days, affecting tens of thousands of individuals.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has visited the flood-affected areas multiple times, pledging significant support for rescue and reconstruction efforts.

Rio Grande do Sul, located in the southern region of Brazil, is prone to flooding, especially during the rainy season.

The state experiences periodic heavy rainfall, which, combined with inadequate infrastructure in some areas, can lead to severe flooding and significant damage to property and infrastructure.

The allocation of funds for reconstruction reflects the government’s response to the urgent need to address the aftermath of natural disasters and support affected communities in rebuilding their lives.
