Violent confrontations continue to rage across Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), severely exacerbating the country’s humanitarian crisis. Clashes around the city of Al-Obeid in the Kordofan region have resulted in hundreds of deaths.

A military source reported that intense fighting has persisted in several areas including Khartoum, Al-Jazeera, Al-Obeid, Al-Fashir, and Sennar, involving the use of heavy and medium weaponry. The battles, which ignited at dawn on Wednesday and continued through yesterday, have claimed the lives of 150 individuals from both sides.

The RSF has launched four consecutive attacks, to which the army responded with artillery and drone strikes. The army is currently attempting to seize control of the city of Wad Madani, intensifying its military sorties across several fronts including the east, south, and west of the city.

Renewed clashes in the city of Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, resulted in dozens more deaths just a day after the army announced its control over the strategic position of Jebel Kordofan.

The outskirts of Al-Obeid witnessed reciprocal artillery shelling and involvement of the army’s warplanes, which repelled RSF forces attempting to regain control of the Jebel Kordofan base.

RSF units are heavily deployed east and north of Al-Fashir in preparation for an anticipated battle with the army, amidst international warnings about the impact of the fighting on thousands of displaced individuals from the Darfur cities.
