Mr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Director, Regional Bureau for Arab States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), emphasized the importance of the two-state solution as the only way to achieve security and stability in the region.
He called for a ceasefire in Gaza to allow the international community to rebuild the area from the destruction that has cost nearly $40 billion.
In an interview with Al Arabiya Al Hadath news channel today, Wednesday, Mr. Al-Dardari noted that the ongoing bombardment in Gaza has produced up to 37 million tons of rubble.
He highlighted the significant challenges and difficulties faced by UN and humanitarian organizations due to continuous fighting and the lack of safe places in the sector.
Mr. Al-Dardari stressed that the United Nations is now intensively working on reconstructing Gaza, including providing adequate housing units and purifying water through eight solar-powered stations to meet the drinking water needs of approximately 100,000 Palestinians. Additionally, the health sector is supported by paying medical staff salaries and providing hospitals with the necessary supplies and equipment to fulfill their duties to the Palestinian people.
