Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has officially announced her candidacy for the upcoming European Parliament elections scheduled for June.

Meloni made the announcement during a conference for her party, “Brothers of Italy,” today in the city of Pescara, located in the eastern part of the country, as reported by the European network “Euro News.”

During her speech, Meloni emphasized her efforts to restore Italy’s role in participating in European and international policies.

She also extended an invitation to Pope Francis to attend the “Group of Seven Industrialized Nations” summit, aiming to make him the first pope from the Vatican to participate in such a meeting.

Furthermore, Meloni highlighted her contribution to reaching agreements with Arab and European countries to manage and control the phenomenon of illegal migration into Italy.

This includes the agreement between Italy and Albania regarding migrant centers in Albanian territories.

It’s worth noting that the “Brothers of Italy” party currently holds six seats in the European Parliament legislative council.

According to recent polls, Meloni’s party could potentially secure up to 24 seats in the upcoming European Parliament elections.

Meloni took the constitutional oath as Prime Minister of Italy in October 2022. Before her premiership, Meloni and her party, “Brothers of Italy,” achieved a historic victory in the legislative elections on September 25, 2022, securing 26% of the new votes.
