Authorities in Bangladesh announced on Saturday the closure of schools and colleges for seven days starting from tomorrow, Sunday, due to the ongoing heatwave sweeping across the country.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued separate statements, as reported by The New Edge, a newspaper published in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported today that a severe heatwave is affecting the areas of Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal, and Tangail.
The administration expects the heatwave to persist unchanged for five days starting from 9:00 a.m. today.
Bangladesh experiences extreme temperatures, especially during the summer months, with heatwaves often posing significant challenges to public health and safety.
High temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses and discomfort, particularly among vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.
The decision to suspend classes aims to protect students and educators from the potentially harmful effects of prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
Such measures are common in countries with hot climates to ensure the well-being of individuals during periods of intense heat.
