The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian Ambassador to Jordan to convey a strong message demanding an immediate halt to derogatory remarks and skepticism about Jordan’s positions. This move underscores a growing tension between the two nations amidst regional instability.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, in an interview with “Al-Mamlaka” TV, highlighted the recent escalations which he claimed had been anticipated by Jordan since the onset of the Gaza conflict.
“We have forewarned of such escalations and are fully prepared to confront any threats to Jordan and the safety of its people with all our capabilities,” Safadi emphasized.
The semi-official Fars News Agency of Iran reported an unnamed source stating that the Iranian Armed Forces are closely monitoring Jordan’s movements amid the ongoing attacks on Israel.
The source warned, “Should Jordan engage in actions to repel the attack, it will then become a subsequent target.”
Further adding to the discourse, the agency quoted the source, “Jordan and other regional countries had been appropriately warned before these operations.”
However, Ali Asghar Naseri, the acting Iranian ambassador in Amman, discredited the threatening remarks circulated by Iranian news agencies as “untrue, unofficial, and not representative of the official Iranian stance.”
In a brief statement to the Jordanian news site “Khaberni,” Naseri clarified that the only official positions are those formally issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This incident marks a significant strain in Jordan-Iran relations, highlighting the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region as nations navigate the escalating conflict around Gaza.
Jordan affirmed that it will not allow any threats to its national security and the safety of its citizens, promising that all necessary steps will be taken to protect the country’s sovereignty.
During a press statement, Safadi emphasized that halting Israeli aggression in Gaza and implementing a comprehensive plan to end the Israeli occupation is crucial for de-escalating the severe tensions currently affecting the region.
