Reports from our correspondent indicate that one person has been killed and 11 others injured, two of them critically, following a clash involving gunfire at a polling center during municipal elections in the Sur district of Diyarbakir, southeastern Turkey.

According to media reports, the clash erupted between two groups of voters who used weapons, sticks, and stones.

As a result of the incident, one person was killed and 11 others injured, with two of them in critical condition. Additionally, two ambulances were damaged after being pelted with stones.

Today, Sunday, Turkey is holding local government elections, with 61.4 million eligible voters, according to the Central Election Committee.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has previously announced that the upcoming municipal elections on March 31 will be his last in his political career.

Later, the official spokesperson for the ruling Justice and Development Party, Omar Celik, indicated that Erdogan’s statement does not mean retirement from politics.
