Germany & Finland Agree to Continue Supporting Ukraine

Germany and Finland have agreed to continue their support for Ukraine amidst its conflict with Russia. In a recent phone conversation, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finnish President Alexander Stubb emphasized the importance of ongoing financial and military equipment support for Ukraine.

This agreement reflects a shared commitment to European security and underscores the strengthening ties between Germany, Finland, and NATO, particularly following Finland’s recent accession to the alliance.

The discussion between the two leaders also touched upon broader security issues, including the situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the Gaza Strip.

Western countries, including Germany and Finland, have been unwavering in their support for Kyiv since the onset of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, providing advanced offensive weapons used by Ukrainian forces to disrupt the Russian operation and target civilians in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.

Russia has previously expressed its concerns to NATO countries regarding weapon supplies to Ukraine, warning that any arms shipments to Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has highlighted that NATO’s actions in supplying weapons to Ukraine are seen as escalatory, directly implicating the US and NATO in the conflict, not only through weapons supply but also through the training of personnel in countries like Britain, Germany, Italy, and others.
