Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf discussed the developments in the Sahel region with the European Union’s Special Representative for the Sahel, Emanuela Del Re.
The discussion took place during a phone call received by the Algerian minister from a European official.
The two parties exchanged views and analyses regarding the developments in the Sahel Sahara region, covering various political, economic, and security aspects, according to a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Sahel region, situated south of the Sahara Desert, encompasses several countries, including Algeria, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Mauritania.
It has been grappling with numerous challenges, including political instability, economic hardships, and security threats posed by terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS-affiliated organizations.
Algeria, being a key player in the region, has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to address these issues, often collaborating with regional and international partners, including the EU.
Discussions between Algerian and EU officials serve as a platform for exchanging insights, coordinating strategies, and exploring avenues for joint action to address the multifaceted challenges facing the Sahel region.
