In a press conference held in Tripoli on Thursday, Interior Minister of the “Temporary Government of National Unity” (TGNU), Imad Al-Trabelsi, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to evacuating all military formations from the capital after the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasized that “operations will be restricted to the Security Directorate.”

In February, Al-Trabelsi announced that “more than a month of consultations and negotiations” had resulted in an “agreement with the security agencies to evacuate the entire capital of Tripoli during Ramadan.”

He added that “only elements of the police, emergency services, and criminal investigation will remain, which are all subordinate to the Ministry of Interior.”

In a separate statement, the Interior Minister denied issuing instructions to open fire at the Ras Ajdir border crossing. He clarified that “we requested the withdrawal of police officers from the crossing to preserve lives and property.”

Al-Trabelsi noted that “the force tasked with supporting the Security Directorate at the crossing does not carry any heavy weaponry, only light weapons.”
