The judge overseeing an investigation into suspected illegal contracts within the Royal Spanish Football Federation during the presidency of Luis Rubiales has released the former external legal advisor to the federation, Tomás González Cueto, and a businessman under investigation in the case, without any precautionary measures, after they refused to testify.

Cueto and Ángel González Segura, an architect and representative of the construction company Gruconsa, which carried out work at La Cartuja stadium in Seville, appeared before the president of Court No. 4 in Majadahonda (Madrid) on Friday after their arrest in the case, which has been declared secret.

The judge and the prosecutor for corruption are investigating suspected violations in contracts over the past five years at the federation.

The accused arrived at the court early in the morning, but the judge and both refused to testify in a session where the prosecution did not request any precautionary measures against either of them.

Consequently, the judge released them, according to judicial sources.

This development follows an operation conducted by the Central Operations Unit of the Civil Guard as part of this case, which involved 11 searches and the arrest of seven individuals.

Five of them were released by the Civil Guard, and two were brought before the court.

Former president of the Spanish Football Federation Luis Rubiales, who is under investigation, was not among those arrested and is currently outside Spain.

The judge and the prosecutor for corruption are examining suspected violations in contracts over the past five years at the federation, within the framework of the case under investigation since June 2022 concerning a contract to transfer the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia signed by Rubiales with businessman and former player Gerard Piqué, the director of Kosmos company.

The Spanish police announced the arrest of six members of a gang specialized in burglarizing the homes of football players in and around Madrid, according to international newspapers.
