Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid al-Ansari announced during a press conference on Tuesday that indirect negotiations between Israeli and Hamas delegations have resumed in Doha, expressing cautious optimism.
Al-Ansari stated that negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza have resumed, moving into the phase of technical meetings.
The spokesperson clarified that it is still too early to discuss the details of the negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
Regarding negotiations on a prisoner exchange deal, al-Ansari stated that they have resumed in full swing, with yesterday’s meeting involving responses from both sides.
The Doha talks focus on ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and achieving a temporary ceasefire.
Al-Ansari emphasized that any attack on Rafah in southern Gaza would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe and negatively impact reaching an agreement in the ongoing negotiations.
Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas are mediated by Qatar and Egypt, with the participation of the United States, amid ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza since October 7th.
On Monday, an Israeli delegation comprising officials from the Mossad, military intelligence, and the general security agency arrived in Doha after receiving authorization from the Israeli Security Cabinet to discuss the issues on the negotiation table.
A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the US lasted for a week from November 24th to December 1st, 2023, during which a cessation of hostilities, prisoner exchanges, and extremely limited humanitarian aid to Gaza occurred.
