A rocket attack in western Russia resulted in the deaths of two individuals, while a separate drone attack ignited a fire at an oil refinery on Saturday.
governor of the Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov reported the fatalities of a man and a woman. Video footage showed flames and the sound of air raid sirens echoing through the streets of Belgorod city.
Dmitry Azarov, the governor of the Samara region located approximately 850 kilometers southeast of Moscow, near the Ukraine border, announced that a fire had broken out at the “Syzran” refinery in the Volga River area. However, an attack on the “Novokuybyshev” refinery was thwarted.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated it had foiled attempts by Ukrainian forces to cross into the Belgorod region.
Given the “current situation,” Gladkov mentioned that schools in many parts of the region would be closed on Monday and Tuesday, and shopping centers in Belgorod city would shut on Sunday and Monday.
Ukraine has launched several strikes on Russian refineries over the past week. In a retaliatory attack on Friday, Russian missiles hit an area in the Black Sea port city of Odesa in Ukraine, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 70 others.
This escalation marks a significant intensification in the conflict, underlining the broadening scope of military engagements and their impacts on civilian and infrastructure targets.
