X Platform is soon set to launch a video streaming service on the platform, which will enable viewing on smart TVs, according to an Engadget report.

Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter (now X) in October 2022, he has thrown a lot of things at the wall hoping they would stick. Now, taking a page from YouTube, he is launching a video streaming service on the platform, according to SamMobile reports.

Musk announced that the feature “will be available soon” in a quote tweet from the DogeDesigner account: “You will soon be able to watch your favorite long-form X videos directly on your smart TVs.”

X will launch a dedicated app that allows users to watch these videos on Samsung TV and Amazon’s Fire TV. Musk recently stated that X would be a “video first” platform going forward, and this development shows that this will extend beyond the usual small content boxes in feeds to a larger screen.

At that time, Musk also claims that eight out of ten times a person visits X, they watch videos.

This move comes in the wake of bad news for X, as a recent Edison Research report found that 2024 saw a 30% decrease in site usage compared to 2023.

In X’s ongoing attempt to change (and stay popular), it has been leaning towards resources for dwindling creators and advertisers. One of these shifts was announced in February that the platform would roll out tools so that “advertisers on X could run ads against a curated list of premium content creators,” including pre-roll video ads, as reported by Forbes.

As for longer videos, we will have to wait until they are rolled out on Samsung and Fire TVs to see how effective they are in attracting users’ attention.
