The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning about the “tragic” situation unfolding in the northern Gaza Strip, urging an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the besieged territory as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
Despite repeated calls, the Israeli regime continues to obstruct UN aid agencies from delivering much-needed assistance in the northern part of Gaza, exacerbating an already dire situation.
“Ramadan is approaching. The death toll continues to rise,” stated UNRWA in a post on X, emphasizing the critical need for humanitarian access across Gaza and an immediate ceasefire to avert further loss of lives.
For weeks, the Israeli military has imposed restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian supplies to northern Gaza, leaving thousands of children without sufficient food and medication. The United Nations has sounded an alarm, warning that child deaths in Gaza will “rapidly increase” if there is not an immediate boost in humanitarian aid deliveries.
UNRWA further highlighted the looming threat of more child deaths in the Gaza Strip due to widespread food shortages and limited access to safe water and medical services.
Tragically, in northern Gaza, an estimated 300,000 people are facing famine as Israel hinders the safe delivery of aid. Reports confirm that an infant and a young woman have recently succumbed to severe malnutrition and dehydration.
The Gaza Health Ministry announced the heartbreaking news on Saturday, revealing that a two-month-old female infant passed away at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza due to malnutrition and dehydration. Additionally, a 20-year-old woman lost her life at Al-Shifa Hospital, succumbing to starvation and dehydration. This follows the deaths of three young people from the same causes the previous Friday.
The dire circumstances in northern Gaza demand urgent international attention and action to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, protect vulnerable populations, and ensure the timely delivery of life-saving aid.
