The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for a ceasefire in Gaza on Saturday, stating that there is “no escape” for residents.
In remarks on the “X” platform, he added that healthcare facilities in Gaza have been subjected to 406 attacks since the start of the war, also noting that Israeli forces have arrested 118 healthcare workers.
Ghebreyesus warned of the increasing spread of diseases in the region, pointing out that only a third of Gaza’s hospitals are partially operational or functioning at minimal capacity.
He stated that aid delivery to those in need in the region is limited amid widespread hunger and continuous bombardment.
Rami Abdo, the director of the Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights, had warned on Friday of rising death rates due to hunger, malnutrition, and drought in northern Gaza, calling for pressure on Israel to halt “genocide and starvation.”
Speaking to the Arab World News Agency, he emphasized, “The death toll from hunger is rising alarmingly due to the ongoing Israeli war for five months and the siege on northern Gaza.”
