Tunisian President Kais Saied met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, including economic and trade sectors.

The meeting, held in Algeria, was part of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.

The Tunisian Presidency stated, “President Kais Saied held talks today in Algeria with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi.

Saied expressed Tunisia’s readiness to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and solid cooperation with Iran, looking forward to the future development of these relations, especially in economic and trade areas.

They explored opportunities for exchange and partnership, in addition to continuing to enhance the tradition of consultation, coordination, and intensifying the pace of high-level visits to serve the common interest of the two brotherly peoples.”

President Saied also reiterated Tunisia’s unwavering stance on Palestinian rights, which he said “will not be diminished by the passage of time,” and affirmed Tunisia’s support for the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish an independent state across all Palestinian territories, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On his part, President Raisi confirmed Iran’s genuine willingness to develop relations with Tunisia, exchange experiences and expertise in various sectors, and enhance economic and trade relations to meet the aspirations of the Tunisian and Iranian peoples.

Raisi also extended an invitation to President Saied to visit Tehran, reciprocated by Saied’s invitation for Raisi to visit Tunisia.

In a televised address on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Algeria, President Raisi stated that Iran is ready to become a regional energy hub and a secure route for gas distribution and transportation between producers and markets.

“Tehran is prepared to serve as a center for energy in the region and a safe pathway for the distribution and transfer of gas among producers and markets,” Raisi explained.

The arrival of President Raisi and the Emir of Qatar in Algeria marks the beginning of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which is set to commence shortly.
