The UN Security Council is set to hold its monthly meeting today, Thursday, focusing on the situation in the Middle East, particularly the issue of Palestine, followed by a consultation session.

Members are expected to receive a briefing from the Secretariat on the latest developments in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian News Agency “WAFA”.

On Tuesday, the UN Security Council failed to adopt a resolution calling for an end to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, due to a veto by the United States.

The resolution, proposed by Algeria on behalf of the Arab Group, received 13 votes in favor, while the United Kingdom abstained, and the United States used its veto power to block the resolution.

The draft resolution condemned the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians and called for adherence to international law.

It reiterated the call for the full, rapid, safe, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid throughout Gaza and the provision of sufficient, urgent, and continuous humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians.

The proposal also reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the two-state solution, envisioning Israel and a democratic Palestine living side by side in peace within recognized and secure borders.
