Germany has pledged or already provided nearly EUR 28 billion in aid to Ukraine, with a recent approval of over EUR 1 billion in aid.

During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin on February 16, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the launch of a new military aid package for Ukraine valued at approximately EUR 1.1 billion, as reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.

The aid package includes 36 armored vehicles from industrial reserves, 120,000 rounds of ammunition, two Skynex air defense systems, and missiles for Iris-T air defense systems.

Scholz highlighted that Germany’s budget for this year includes over EUR 7 billion for military support to Ukraine and mentioned the government’s ongoing contracts with the defense industry to boost the production of ammunition and equipment, aiming to enhance the weapons supply to Ukraine significantly.

Scholz emphasized the deepening relationship between Germany and Ukraine over the past two years, describing the agreement signed on February 16 as a historic and deliberate step, underscoring its profound importance.

He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary, noting that over 20 countries, in addition to the G7, have expressed their support for Ukraine.

The chancellor committed to aiding in the development of a modern Ukrainian military capable of deterring aggression and in the reconstruction efforts of Ukraine, including demining, and boosting the energy sector, and other areas.

He noted that Putin has failed to achieve his initial war objectives and stated that despite Russia’s ongoing military ambitions, Germany’s message is clear: support for Ukraine will continue unwaveringly.

Scholz concluded with a call for continued support for Ukraine and an appeal to American lawmakers to approve aid for the country. President Zelensky emphasized the importance of Germany’s support for Ukraine and its frontline soldiers during the briefing.
