UN Congratulates Algeria on Security Council Membership

The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, congratulated the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Thursday, upon Algeria’s election as a member of the Security Council.

Guterres recognized Algeria’s outstanding contributions towards regional and international peace and security. He said, “This distinction testifies to Algeria’s efforts towards peace and security regionally and internationally.”

Guterres further expressed his appreciation for President Tebboune’s message and strong commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and international cooperation. “I thank President Tebboune for his message and the strong commitment to the peaceful solution of conflicts and international cooperation. I salute Algeria’s continuous adherence to the principles and values of the United Nations Charter.”

Expressing his desire and readiness to collaborate closely with Algeria, UN Secretary-General Guterres conveyed to President Tebboune his eagerness for his team to work in close coordination with Algeria.

The inclusion of Algeria in the Security Council marks a significant recognition of the country’s contributions to maintaining international peace and security, and their commitment to the principles of the United Nations. This move is also expected to strengthen Algeria’s role and influence in international diplomatic circles.
