The Tunisian Parliament has granted approval for a law related to an agreement on a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, totaling 247 million euros.

This funding aims to support the electricity link project between Tunisia and Italy and enhance the renewable energy system.

With 109 deputies voting in favor, 4 deputies abstaining, and 3 opposing, the law was passed, according to a statement from the Tunisian Parliament.

The purpose of this law, which approves the agreement reached on June 22, 2023, between Tunisia and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is to increase Tunisia’s national capacity for electricity exchange with Europe.

This project is expected to benefit Tunisian households by reducing electricity consumption costs and offering significant investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector for Tunisian companies, while also contributing to energy security.
