During a meeting held on Monday at the headquarters of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in Benghazi, General Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the LNA, convened with Abdoulaye Bathily, the United Nations envoy to Libya.
The General Command’s media office reported that the discussion between Haftar and Bathily centered on the political developments in the country and the imperative of creating favorable conditions for the forthcoming simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
General Khalifa Haftar emphasized the critical role of the UN mission in Libya and called for increased balanced efforts to advance the political process.
He affirmed the General Command’s support for the UN mission’s endeavors to fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people.
Abdoulaye Bathily, in turn, commended the distinguished position of the LNA’s General Command and its pivotal role in maintaining security and stability in Libya.
This meeting underscores the ongoing international and national efforts to navigate Libya toward a stable and democratic future through the electoral process.
Earlier this month, members of the High Council of State, including former President Khalid Al-Mishri, held discussions with the “Gathering of Misrata Representatives” regarding the political situation and the political deadlock in the African country.
The primary focus of these talks was the formation of a new technocratic government to pave the way for upcoming elections.
It took place in Misrata and was attended by Vice President of the Council, Omar Al-Obaidi, along with members Fathallah Al-Sudairi, Safwan Al-Mousawi, Adel Karmous, Khalid Al-Nazouri, and Khalid Al-Mishri.
The discussions revolved around the current political deadlock and the necessity of holding parliamentary and presidential elections.
