Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Anja Szczęsna, stated in an interview with Rzeczpospolita newspaper that her country has approved the deployment of German troops on its territory.
She added, “If the Germans want to strengthen the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Poland, as they did in Lithuania, we agree to it and welcome them.”
The Polish diplomat emphasized that in the ongoing “combat conditions beyond Poland’s eastern borders,” Warsaw welcomes any assistance and cooperation from its allies.
Deputy Minister Szczęsna noted that approximately ten thousand American soldiers are currently deployed in Poland.
Last year, Germany and Lithuania agreed to deploy a German brigade in the latter’s territory by 2027, with the main formations expected to arrive in the 2025-2026 period.
Five thousand German soldiers will be stationed in Lithuania to form a heavy brigade consisting of three maneuver battalions and the necessary combat support and supply units.
In recent years, Russia has displayed unprecedented activity along its western borders about NATO.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that Russia poses no threat to anyone but will not ignore actions that could jeopardize its interests.
