Microsoft is preparing to launch a version of its video conferencing tool, Teams, for Android Auto users.
The company has updated its Microsoft 365 roadmap, indicating that Teams will become available on Google‘s in-car infotainment system by February.
This plan was initially revealed by Google at the I/O 2023 event in May, but Microsoft has yet to provide extensive details about Teams’ functionality on Android Auto.
Google also announced at I/O 2023 that other video conferencing services, such as Zoom and Webex, would be integrated into Android Auto.
These applications were made available on the platform in September 2023. There’s no clear explanation from Microsoft regarding the delayed release of Teams for Android Auto.
Android Auto has recently added new applications, including The Weather Channel and YouTube. It even features games for passengers, and drivers can play them when the vehicle is stationary. Examples include a Solitaire variant and “Beach Buggy Racing 2.”
Google reports that Android Auto is now compatible with 200 million vehicles. The introduction of Microsoft Teams to the platform is expected to be beneficial for users.
There’s also Android Automotive, a separate product by Google, which is a comprehensive infotainment operating system. Engadget reports a significant increase in the adoption of Android Automotive over the past year.
