Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), engaged in a diplomatic meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame as part of a regional tour aimed at garnering international support for peacebuilding initiatives in Sudan.
During the meeting, Hemetti briefed President Kagame on the political and security situation in Sudan, providing updates on the ongoing peace initiatives designed to resolve the country’s prolonged conflict.
Hemetti’s visit is a component of a broader diplomatic outreach to various stakeholders, including IGAD member states, AU Peace and Security Council members, and friendly countries. The purpose is to articulate his position on resolving the conflict between the Sudanese army and RSF paramilitary forces.
President Kagame reiterated Rwanda’s unwavering commitment to Sudan’s peace process, expressing full support for the ongoing dialogue and reconciliation efforts to end hostilities between Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF. He underscored the significance of a political solution to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and restore stability to the country.
Hemetti, who has previously visited Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, expressed gratitude for Rwanda’s support and emphasized the critical role regional leaders play in facilitating peacebuilding initiatives. He conveyed hope for Rwanda’s continued engagement and assistance in helping Sudan overcome its current crisis and establish lasting peace.
